in a d&d game there is a human that adjust the adventure for a party, for example if you lack in heal magic he will give you enough potions. with the possibility to reload he would be totally op. because of these limitations he is very powerfull, risk/reward. The changes brought into the game can be summarized as follows: 1) The mod brings in a large number of patches/fixes that have been overlooked by the official patches. best example is in p&p there are no reloads or second chances, a mage cant just rest before a fight and learn the usefull spells, he has to manage what he got and if he is not carefull the chances are high he will permanent die. The Circle of Eight is a fan-based site that, among other things, has produced a modification for the Temple of Elemental Evil game. Its still designed around something completely different. Simpler system, sure, but that has advantages, too. D&D 5e (I am using that as my example because I know and enjoy it but other TT RPGs are similar) has been tested over years and the balance is pretty good. I wonder if some of the complexity is causing some of the comments about builds - what is OP, what is useless etc.
